Watch the following video to learn how to use the location settings for rotating residential proxies.

Instructions: In order to use geo-targeting by city on our residential proxies, please add the following to your proxy password:

password123-city-cityname

You will substitute the name of the city for the "cityname" parameter. If your city has more than one word, like "Los Angeles", you will need to use the underscore symbol '_' in place of the space (see the real example further down in the article).

A full proxy would look like this:

username123:password123-city-cityname@la.residential.rayobyte.com:8000

It may also be formatted like this if the tool you're using has a different UI setup:
  • Username: username123
  • Password: password123-city-cityname
  • IP: la.residential.rayobyte.com
  • Port: 8000

Here is a real example with a city name included:

username123:password123-city-Los_Angeles@la.residential.rayobyte.com:8000

If we do not have the city that is available to you, you will receive the error code 551 as a response from our system. Please let us know if a city you need is not available and we will work with our procurement team to try and acquire IPs in that city.

Additionally, you can use our city geo-location targeting functionality with our sticky IP functionality described in this article. A properly formatted version of this proxy would look like either of these two options:

username123:password123-city-cityname-session-ABCDEFG@la.residential.rayobyte.com :8000

username123:password123-session-ABCDEFG-city-cityname@la.residential.rayobyte.com :8000

Please note that we use MaxMind's geolocation database to check the geolocation of our IPs. If you're using another geolocation database to verify the location of your proxy IP address, you may see different results.
